One of the computers on our network had been hijacked by vroomsearch.  Porn pops everywhere when you tried to use MSN or AOL. 

I tried searching and searching the internet for a fix.  All I found were blogs about vroomsearch but no software that would fix the problem.  

We already had Spybot Search and Destroy (free adware removal - they only ask for donations) which had worked pretty good up until the hijacking occurred.  After two computers on our network had been hijacked ....and Search and Destroy was not doing it's job, we hired a network administrator to come in and fix the two computers that had been hijacked by vroomsearch.

He recommended Spy Sweeper.  He installed the trial version on several pc's on our network for a trial run.  On the first pc, it removed 62 instances of adware and tracked 500 traces.  Webroot Spy Sweeper™ lets you protect your privacy and your computer from a variety of spyware and unwanted programs, from those that monitor all of your computer's activities (system monitors), to those that can steal or destroy data (Trojan horses). It also detects programs that pop up advertising on your computer (adware) and cookies that may contain personal information (tracking cookies).

Spy Sweeper "sweeps" your computer looking for evidence of threats, reports its findings, and lets you decide whether to quarantine and remove the item or keep it. The quarantine-and-remove function disables the item until you decide to delete it completely or restore it.

Spy Sweeper has firewall of sorts as well.

They are a company out of Boulder Colorado who seem to know what they are talking about.  Spy  Sweeper did remove the adware related to the vroomsearch and now our computers are running nicely.

We plan on purchasing license agreements for each computer on our network.  We are pretty impressed.

Another adware program we tried that caused more popups and adware than it removed was Stopzilla.  It virtually destroyed one computer and we ended up reformatting the hard drive.

Don't forget to install Mcafee virus scan and windows updates.  Windows updates help to increase security on your pc as new intrusions are found.  Norton antivirus is probably good too, but I don't even think I know anyone who uses Norton.  Mcafee is very popular.

Just some good advice from those of us who have been there and done that.

Update

Warning that Spysweeper and Mcaffee may have been attacked by spyware themselves.  If your computer is having problems that neither of these programs are detecting or fixing, visit webroot software or Mcaffee.com.  You can send them scan information of your pc so that they can research and detect problems with the software.  Mcafee has a setting that allows your pc to send them information so that they can map virus demographics.
