Google's SEO videos for updates and webmaster
information according to Axandra Weekly Search Engine Facts
Use Google's Webmaster
Central located at http://www.google.com/webmasters/
Find out whether your site is currently being indexed by
Google. The latest news and info on how Google crawls and indexes
websites. Statistics, diagnostics and management of Google's crawling
and indexing of your website, including Sitemap submission and
reporting. Talk with your fellow webmasters and share your feedback with
us. Learn about submitting content for Google properties such as
Google Base and Google Book Search. See answers to frequently asked questions about crawling,
indexing, ranking and other webmaster issues. Under the Site Status Wizard, Google will give you some hints on if
they've crawled your website and if they've missed any pages. Then
they will give you some hints on what they found or didn't find.
Webmaster
tools (including Sitemaps)
Webmaster tools is a very informative section of the behemoth search
engine's tools. It is elite compared to it's rival Yahoo's
"Site Explorer" in the amount of information they provide
about your website. IF you're not listed on Google, it's
not because they haven't dropped enough hints. The information is
there for the taking, it just requires a bit of elbow grease on your
part; as well as persistence... (read that "trial and error")
to get your website "up there". An historically
"old" or aged website with lots of incoming links tends to do
well on Google and other search engines as long as the webmaster has
followed directions and your website is well behaved. Google
doesn't like "Black Hats" or spammy websites, and doesn't
waste much time tolerating them.
You can submit your content to Google in the form of sitemaps as well
as the normal "submit URL" page for those of you who do not
have a feed generator yet. I prefer "Gsitemap" to build
xml sitemaps.
"Why isn't my website listed on Google?"Then you must ask.....What is the Google Sandbox?
The Google Sandbox is an alleged filter placed on new websites. The
result is a site does not receive good rankings for its most important
keywords and keyword phrases. Even with good content, abundant incoming
links and strong Google PageRank, a site is still adversely affected by
the Sandbox effect. The Sandbox acts as a de facto probation for sites,
possibly to discourage spam sites from rising quickly, getting banned,
and repeating the process. |
